Remington m1917 bayonet markings
These had the leather hanger for attachment which was a notoriously weak design, and was rapidly replaced in service by the 2nd pattern with the incorporated metal holder for the belt loop. Thats right, a P that was overstamped and issued for US service around that date would most likely have been matched with the 1st pattern scabbard for the M, shown HERE. The scabbard is a matching Remington made RE stamped.
Picked this bayonet up today, I think I did quite well its a pattern August dated, with cancelled out British stamps and a U. In any case, nice combo!Īny Ideas as to what it's worth? Locally I paidBy Garron, 11 Februaryin Arms and other weapons.

Join Date Dec Posts The first model scabbard is a real plus and has been stated are hard to find.Ī friend of mine just recently sent me the later manufacture scabbard for the US Enfield which are very hard to find in my neck of the woods. In peacetime, Jewell was a manufacturer of leather belting for industrial machinery. These did not hold up well in service, so the wire belt hook was made integral with the upper mount. The scabbards is the early type, with the leather belt hanger. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest. BTW, the "space" you observed between the "1" marking and the "17" marking is entirely normal. Your bayonet does not appear to be one of these. Most of these bayonets had the British markings "cancelled" and US eagle heads added to denote new US ownership. The scabbard however, is for a US Model bayonet. The Pattern bayonet was used on the British Pattern 14 rifle. I never met a gun I didn't like! Dogs are better people than most people. I had also not seen this type of belt hook arrangement on the scabbard. So any help would be greatly appreciated. Or is this a date indicator for January ? I have to admit I'm not any type of authority on bayonets. Is this a P bayonet or a oddly marked ? The numbers below the "" appears to have an unusual space where the "7" would go in a "" marking. I recently came across it again and noticed the markings. Results 1 to 10 of Thread: Remington Bayonet marked. Remember Me? What's New? Forum Gunboards.
